Before joining the team in January 2024, Julia was best known locally for her Shelter Island Gazette blog and Life Between the Ferries newsletter, drawing on her experience as a newspaper and AP wire service reporter, as well as nearly 40 years homeownership and community involvement here. She’d previously served on Sylvester Manor’s Board of Trustees and was a member of the Shelter Island Public Library board, assisting with the development of its renovation plans.
Prior to moving to the Island full-time in 2015, Julia was active in an arts education nonprofit in Nassau County’s regional North Shore School District, where she’d been an elected school board member and president. Adept at coordinating large projects, she led a committee overseeing multi-million dollar construction overhauls of five schools simultaneously.
She also managed the rehabilitation of her family’s registered historic Sea Cliff Victorian and served on Sea Cliff’s municipal Landmarks Committee. She and her husband, Eddie, live year round in Silver Beach.
