Sylvester Manor will host its 3rd annual Vegetable 500. “V500” A farmer’s version of the pinewood derby race! Haven’t you ever wanted to see a flying zucchini? Or a carrot race a cucumber? Well, we farmers at Sylvester Manor have! We’ll be setting up the official pinewood derby race track and are gearing up for a race to be remembered. All community members are welcome to enter their prize winning vegetable race car and participate in the family fun on our farm!
If any member of the community needs a veggie they can pick one up at the farm stand or come harvest one from our fields! They can also use their own home grown veggies to enter. We will have free wheels and axles available for pick up at the farmstand for anyone who needs them (but participants may also use their own). We welcome creativity and diversity. Contestants may decorate, paint and accessorize their vegetables to add flair to their veggie car.
We can’t wait to see carrots compete against cucumbers and eggplants, peppers and more, for the chance to win fun prizes, which will be awarded for speed and style. The race will be from 10:30AM – on.
This event is being hosted to educate our community and youth on where their produce comes from and to welcome all to the farm to see what’s growing on! This is a free event.
As long as the wheel width of the vegetable fits the standard measurements of what would have been a pine derby race car – it’ll work!
Rules:
The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 3⁄4 inches.
The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body so it does not rub on the track.
Requirements:
FUN!
