Joseph brings a varied background to his position as Office Manager at Sylvester Manor. Coming from a family with a long history on Shelter Island, he grew up in New York City and spent summers and weekends with extended family on the Island, primarily in Alfred Tuthill’s Boatyard.
After studying earth sciences and oceanography at Adelphi College in Garden City, he ran and managed marine cargo terminals in New York and Houston. Working with strict union contracts and narrow margins fostered an attention to the bottom line and getting the job done.
Joseph returned to school after a number of years in the workforce, obtaining a master’s degree in finance from the University of Houston and went on to work with one of the largest public sector pension systems in the country. Later, he became a consultant to a wide range of state pensions, endowments, family offices and institutional investment funds, creating new opportunities to put the hard won experiences of life on the docks and reading contracts to work.
After a stint in Germany, Joseph returned to the East End five years ago and settled in Orient. He looks forward to bringing his wide and varied experiences to Sylvester Manor as he manages the busy administrative end of things, as well as helping to welcome visitors to the Manor.
