Livestock and Resource Manager

Growing vegetables and exploring the Earth’s natural resources have always been at the forefront of Andrew’s interests. Raised in Western New York, Andrew’s childhood consisted of growing produce for his family, neighbors and community, exploring the nearby waterways, and fishing whenever possible. In his mind, land, forest and sea have always been places to learn and play. He loves communicating his twin passion for farming and land conservation with the local Shelter Island community.  

Andrew has worked in production greenhouses and small vegetable farms.  He spent three years in the Adirondack State Park where he attended Paul Smith’s College and became familiar with New York’s finest wilderness spaces.  He also worked in Kodiak, Alaska in a remote lodge as a commercial salmon fisherman before he joined the Sylvester Manor team as an Apprentice in the Spring of 2016. By season's end, Andrew and his fellow Apprentices were co-managers of the Windmill Field, responsible for growing, harvesting and nurturing all the vegetables for the Sylvester Manor CSA. He was also the primary crew liaison with  the Farm Committee and collaborated with the Shelter Island Public Library to launch a seed library that is going into its second year. In his new position as Livestock and Resources Manager, Andrew is excited to be taking his vision for Sylvester Manor’s livestock operations and the expansion of the Windmill Field and making it a reality.
